“Kings & Queens” is a go-to for a funky, punchy, feel-good love song. A true team effort, the song started out as a bouncy drum groove crafted by Simon Allen that would be filled out by Pete Shand’s joyful bass line and Lamar Williams Jr’s radiant lyrics. At the halfway point, listeners are treated to a blues-laced guitar solo by Eddie Roberts before concluding the dynamic “Average White Band meets Marvin Gaye” tune. Celebrating 20 years as a band, The New Mastersounds’ new studio album, ‘Shake It’ showcases the collaboration between the quartet and Williams throughout an ear-opening milestone recording.
